The Nursery-Part 1

When we bought this house we knew that the only thing that would need to be worked on immediately would be the nursery.  There was already an established nursery and I suppose the former homeowners loved it...since they created it...but I hated it.  The top half of the walls were a muddy yellow, the bottom half a barfy sage, and to top it off a zoo animal wallpaper border right in the middle.  Not a cute animal border either, a really poorly drawn, zoo animals in train cars, wallpaper border.  YUCK!

I wanted a fun, stylish, but not too trendy, semi-gender-neutral, nursery.  So, of course, I went to pinterest.  I don't know how anyone decorated a house before pinterest.  I went a little overboard with it I think though.  I think my nursery board has over a hundred pins.

I've been obsessed with yellow and grey for some time, so I decided on grey walls and yellow accents in the room...bedding, curtains, decor, ect.  Well, then I decided plain grey walls are too boring.  I'm also obsessed with stripes and chevrons, so I wanted chevroned walls.  Well, then I decided 4 chevroned walls was way too busy, so I cut down to 2.  Then I remembered I would have to do a lot of math and measuring and taping and such so we went to stripes instead of chevrons.  And I picked chevron bedding.  After finally deciding on the stripes it took a while to pick white and grey stripes instead of yellow and grey.  But if we end up having a girl later on we could do pink accents with the grey and white walls and it'll look awesome!  Long term is important when designing a room, I think.

Well, not long after we moved in, I removed the border.  That went fairly well, not too many issues.

Finally 2 weeks ago I started taping, and painting.  Firstly, I taped everything off for painting all the walls grey.  After all the walls were grey everything had to be taped for the white stripes on the 2 walls and to paint all the trim white.

Then the white painting began.  I was fairly terrified the whole time.  I hoped the stripes didn't turn out crooked or just look terrible, but I am completely pleased with the finished project!

So, the painting is all done, lots of things need to be put together, lots of things need to be hung.  It's still an empty room.  I've got 4 weeks to make this Garrett's home!  More posts to come!

  1. Those stripes look fantastic!! We did yellow and gray for Liam's nursery too, and I love it! We still need to paint his new room in our new house though, and I love the stripes idea (I might steal it!)
