Weeks 37 & 38

Well, last week was somewhat unpleasant.  Brett and I were both sick most of the week.  Worse than a cold but not really the flu either.  I only threw up once, which was great, but still ruined my 3 year streak...yes, I did cry.  And I had a fever for a week and generally felt terrible.  Brett never threw up, which is good, I'd probably freak out if he did.  He hasn't thrown up for over 8 years, and that time it was from pain during a kidney stone, which doesn't really even count.  He still had a fever yesterday and wasn't feeling well last night, but he went to work this morning anyway.

Thursday I had a date with my friend, Meghan.  We had lunch at a cute little chinese place in Oberlin, The Mandarin.  I had general tso's tofu and wonton soup, both of which were delicious.  And it was only $6!  Awesome!  Then we went to this cute little yarn/flooring store around the corner.  It was weirdly awesome.  Rows of Madelinetosh and Malabrigo next to rows of carpeting and hard wood floor samples.  Funny, but magical all the same.  I ended up getting a gorgeous skein of Madelinetosh dk, my favourite, is a gorgeous blue/green colourway called Baltic.  It was a good day.

Yesterday was a crazy day.  I finally found a pediatrician for Garrett.  I had an appointment to meet her at 2.  She was very nice and I liked her fine, so I'm glad I can cross that off the list now.  Then I had a midwife appointment at 3:45.  I had intended to grab some lunch in between, but I had to go all the way from Lorain to Middleburg Heights, and didn't have time.  Anyway.....

I got to the midwife and went right back like always, my blood pressure was a little high, which Genny wasn't worried about, until the nurse came in to tell her that I was also throwing +3 protein in my urine.  So, after my exam, I had to be sent to the hospital for a non-stress test and a bunch of blood work.  Of course my hospital bag was at home, Brett was still at work, and it was 4:30, holy traffic.

So, I left the office and called Brett.  He had to leave work, go all the way across town to get our bags, and shower, and then come all the way back across town again to the hospital.  Then I called my mom and let her know what was going on, so she could get to the hospital if the blood work and tests came back bad and they had to induce me.  Then off to the hospital I went.

Luckily, my midwife is about 4 miles from the hospital, so I got there pretty quick.  I got set up in a room and put on monitoring for the non-stress test and an automatic blood pressure cuff that checked me every 5 minutes.  So I sat and read the Hobbit and waited for Brett to get there.  After about 45 minutes of monitoring the nurse said Garrett was reactive and looked good and I didn't have to be on there anymore, but my blood pressure was still a little high so I had to stay on that.  I called my mom to let her know how things were going and we stayed on the phone til Brett got there about a half an hour later.  Then about 15 minutes later the nurse came to tell me my blood work looked fine and I was free to go.  But I have to do a 24 hour urine collection.  GROSS!  Then I have to take the jug of pee back to the hospital tomorrow and see what they say.  EXTRA GROSS!

So, we left the hospital and stopped at McDonalds.  I hadn't eaten since 11am and it was now 6:30.  I was starving and exhausted.  It was quite a day.

How I'm Feeling:

Well, yesterday was a little bit scary.  I was fine after knowing Garrett was okay, but it was kind of like, Oh, by the way, you're going to have a baby any day now.  I'm also 1 cm dilated now, so that's good too.  I'm excited and getting a tiny bit nervous about this whole being a mom thing.  Don't get me wrong, I've been waiting for this my whole life, and am so excited I can barely contain myself, but my whole life is about to change, and I've never done this before.  But, now it's just a waiting game.  I hate waiting.
